Recently 2 staff members of the National Truck Equipment Association (Luci Pfaff and myself)attended a very educational meeting in Chicago that talked about how to have membership success in a dismal economy. This session was presented by Mark Levin, CAE,CSP who is President of B.A. I., Inc. and Executive Vice President for Chain Link Fence Manufacturers Institute.
Some of the areas that were focused on were membership empathy and using social networking to increase membership involvement. When dealing with an economy like we are in now it is important to empathize with our members and let them know that we understand what they are going through as a business. Social networking is obviously a term that is heard more and more in todays business place and will continue to grow into an avenue that individuals can take to communicate.
We came away with many helpful thoughts and new ways to think about approaching our current and prospective members. The main message was received that in todays economy associations are needed even more to help support their membership.
